The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most iconic cars in history. Known today as a symbol of peace from an era of love, the Beetle’s origin is much darker. Born from the needs of a brutal dictatorship; the Beetle was both a car for the people, and an excuse for acts of evil. Join Nolan, James and Joe as they begin the story of the VW Beetle. Part 1 of 3.

Donut Media brings you some of the craziest stories from all of automotive history in their new podcast “Past Gas!”. Hosts James Pumphrey and Nolan Sykes walk you through incredible stories behind your favorite cars and manufacturers, like underground Japanese racing clubs, bitter racing rivalries and how some of your favorite classic cars came to be. Remember, it’s about cars, not about farts.

  1. can you guys at least switch up the scripts for the ads? its great companies are supporting you but im getting tired of hearing about hamburglars and my "enterprise level" security, also nolan needs to stop trying to steal all the attention hes a co-host not the host.

  2. Rockets… they only had rockets. Not missiles. I work in the space industry…this was driving me crazy. Missiles have a guidance system. The Nazi V2 "Rocket" worked like so: Point that shit, do the fuel load to distance math, adjust angle of launch, Shoot zat shitz at zoze farking allies… lose the war like the assholes they were. Done.

  3. imagine not being allowd to have different opinions on things or ull be defunded and shamed. oh thats 2020 not 1940s germany btw

  4. Do an episode on the Takata scandal! I have been withing since January 1st to hear NHTSA's decision on GM's FOURTH petition!!!

  5. 3:27 Yes not the worst. The British colonisers were the worst. Their inhumane ways are not known by the rest of the world. They have caused the death of millions and even now the effects remain.

  6. I'm interested where you got your information from about the Volkswagen Beetle. I've only read three books on the subject, each had a slightly different story on how the Volkswagen Beetle came to be.

  7. I love your podcasts but can you make podcasts about the history of car companies like Ford or Lamborghini.

  8. Not that this is easy but I feel like if the format is going to be Nolan narrating with other chiming in he is going to have to raise his game; shits dry. Better delivery & more personal banter, more James. Definitely has fun content but suffers lulls in delivery.
