👉Talk: STEAM Education Efforts Include Playful Mathematics
In the midst of the COVID19 pandemic, educational institutions are struggling with what happens after. I would like to propose that we take this opportunity to engage our students in a more highly integrated collection of curricula that fits better within the needs and abilities of the 21st century. Two ideas that seem at odds with each other in the old paradigm, I will argue, are capable of being complementary with each other. Play is at the heart of mathematical learning, and Data Science is at the forefront of a new age of discovery. The integration of these two, as pillars in a new STEAM-based movement in curricular development, is our best hope for engaging students in the learning they will need to solve the complex issues of the next several decades.
